Construction of a 20-bed OB-GYN ward extension to the James Jenkins (J. J.) Dossen Memorial Hospital in Harper City, Maryland (MD) County, Liberia, is slated to commence shortly. This approximately $20K project is being funded by Marylanders with abode in the USA, collaborating under the gamp of the National Maryland County Association of Liberia in the USA (NAMCAL, USA).
During the General Assembly meeting at Convention 2024 held in Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Bill Patrick Davis, Chief Medical Officer of the hospital spoke to the assembly via Zoom from Harper City. Dr. Davis made a poignant and passionate appeal to NAMCAL for assistance to construct the extension. According to Dr. Davis, the obstetric ward expansion is one of the top priorities of the hospital. He said this extension, when completed will;
- accommodate more patients,
- alleviate over crowdedness, and
- provide more services to prenatal
and postnatal patients.
The completed project estimates and assessment was submitted to the National Representative Council (NRC) for approval. It was consequently approved in an overwhelmingly unanimous vote.
A Black-Tie Fundraising event is scheduled for April 12, 2025 to climax the 2nd Quarterly Meeting. All proceeds raised will be used to purchase medical supplies and equipment for the obstetric ward extension.
NAMCAL has also embarked on the renovation of the Gbaweken Elementary School building in Karluway Statutory District. Work on the school building started approximately two weeks ago. More of these school building renovations will be done in the other districts in the not too distant future.
